Set Your Own Tempo: Introducing The New Audemars Piguet Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique

Audemars Piguet’s wide array of watches is more than just Gérald Genta’s Royal Oak. The Millenary line is often overlooked but is a perfect combination of traditional watchmaking and design.

Often overshadowed by its brother the Royal Oak, the Millenary collection, with its unusual case shape, is the epitome of style, skill, and technique. Launched in 1995, this collection’s multi-dimensional design codes drew inspiration from the Art Deco era. As the watch transformed over the years, it is now recognizable thanks to its open-worked in-house movement. The small off-centered dial does not upstage the balance wheel next to it, often produced in a different metal.
 

But why name it Millenary? At the time the collection was launched, everybody was already talking about the endless promise of the new millennium that was just around the corner — a perfect name for this new collection, meant to be a canvas for creativity.
 

Since 2015, the collection has been exclusively dedicated to women. With sizes smaller than the original 47mm now available, you can now treat yourself to the timepiece in a wealth of different materials. Often adorned with precious stones, such as opal or unusual dial materials such as aventurine, it is the perfect companion for the female watch lovers.
 

As previously mentioned, the Millenary design is mostly known for its openworked dial. However, the new Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique’s movement is covered with a thin, delicately hand-hammered mother of pearl dial. Two different dials are available, one a chocolate dial with a rose gold case and, the other, a midnight blue varient with white gold case.
 

Both watches come in cases measuring 39.5 x 35.4mm however, the gold cases are frosted. Developed in partnership with Carolina Bucci, this diamond dust effect is the perfect complement to Audemars Piguet’s savoir-faire. Matching seamlessly with the hand-polished bevels, it makes the piece look even more exquisite without the addition of precious stones.
 

The real stunner on this timepiece is the single hour hand that leaves the wearer to tell the time philosophically and sentimentally. Granted, should you wish for an extremely precise timepiece then this is not the piece for you. But that is precisely the point! The Millenary Frosted Gold Philosophique allows the wearer to slow down and re-appropriate time for themselves.
 

With its newly patented self-winding calibre 3140 movement, it is the first watch to tell the time in an elliptical path on the dial. The movement, visible through the caseback, is decorated in the pure high watchmaking tradition. Through this you can spot the oscillating weight and matching colored plates, reminders of the handcrafted dial shades.
