The Ultimate Hublotista Holiday Wish List (For A Year Like No Other)
Our friends at Hublot celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2020 and released a slew of fresh products throughout the year. We celebrated with the brand at LMVH Watch Week and welcomed the arrival of the new Big Bang Integral and Big Bang Sang Bleu II. For a brand always on the move, 2020 looked decidedly different. However, always the innovator, Hublot has managed to keep the desire alive by producing immersive digital experiences and novelties to entertain and delight during what's proved to be a year like no other.
One of the binding elements of owning a Hublot is its owner's community, aptly named the Hublotistas. A name we here at Watchonista can 100% get behind! Speaking from experience, owning a Hublot timepiece can serve as an unexpected passport to some extraordinary experiences!
The Hublotista Gift Guide
While much of Watchonista's 2020 Gift Guide coverage has focused on the latest novelties and can't miss products, our Hublot gift guide went in a decidedly different direction. Hublot is a brand rich in partnerships and ambassadorships, so we thought, who better to help us select the products in this gift guide than a few essential key personnel at Hublot and a selection of the brand's top ambassadors and friends!
The request was simple, "What's the one gift on your 2020 list that you can't live without?" The answers were remarkably varied and, like the brand, unique. While some enjoy the simple pleasures that helped all of us get through 2020, others looked to the future for a time when we can all be together at a Hublot event celebrating the Art of Fusion.
Ricardo Guadalupe
For nearly a decade in his role as CEO of Hublot, Ricardo Guadalupe has overseen impressive growth while always keeping a keen eye on the future. From football to Ferrari, Guadalupe has managed to have his finger on the pulse of what makes Hublotistas tick.
For Guadalupe, his 2020 wish list wasn't so much a specific product as it was an experience. As he told Watchonista, "The best gift for this holiday season would be to travel again, to disconnect. And the perfect location for me is the Maldives."
As a man who has spent much of the last decade on the road, I can fully understand the need to put away the cell phone, put your feet up, and enjoy the tranquil peace of the Maldives!
Pelé
Born in Brazil in 1940, Edson Arantes do Nascimento is known to the world as the legendary Pelé. Even today, he is the only player to have won three World Cups during his career and is regarded as one of, if not the, greatest athlete of all time. It is only natural that given his and Hublot's shared passion and commitment to football, Pelé is now a proud ambassador for the brand.
For the holidays this year, Pelé told Watchonista, "I have been blessed with health and friendships. Family too. These times are very trying. This year, I do not want any gifts. Just love. I hope for people to have a better chance next year. I wish for love, love, love."
Keeping in mind Pelé's wishes and his record as a committed advocate for children's rights, how about donating on behalf of a loved one to a charity that benefits children? We suggest Pencils of Promise, a nonprofit dedicated to improving the state of education for children in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Ghana, and Laos. Pencils of Promise also constructs schools and educational facilities, trains faculty, champions scholarships, and supports sanitary programs.
Dina Asher-Smith
Friend of the brand Dina Asher-Smith was recently named the fastest British woman in history. Her record-breaking 21.88 seconds pace in the 200m World Championships allowed Asher-Smith to break a record in existence for nearly four decades. She's also a bronze medal winner at the 2016 Rio Olympics and has her eyes set on the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
For Asher-Smith, her gift guide selection is for the self-care crowd, which is so crucial in this tumultuous year, "Barbara Sturm Darker skin tones face cream. So rich and moisturizing – amazing, especially as the weather gets colder," said Asher-Smith.
Alex Morgan
As a professional soccer player, co-captain of the US women's national soccer team (USWNT), and the winner of the 2019 ESPY Award for Best Female Athlete, Alex Morgan knows what excellence is.
So, it is not surprising that in addition to earning a gold medal as a member of Team USA at the 2012 London Olympics and winning two Women's World Cup tournaments as a member of the USWNT, Alex Morgan is also a friend of the brand. In fact, she celebrated the team's latest win in 2019 by wearing a Big Bang One Click Steel Blue Diamonds as the USWNT was showered with ticker tape during a parade in their honor down the Canyon of Heroes in New York City.
But beyond being a soccer star, Morgan also became a new mom to daughter Charlie, born in May this year. In honor of this, Morgan told Watchonista, "I really want a gold necklace with an emerald, my daughter, Charlie's, birthstone."
Might we suggest the elegant Maharani de Chaumet emerald necklace by Chaumet. As part of the maison’s High Jewellery collection, this handcrafted white gold necklace features two pear-shaped Colombian emeralds weighting 2.70 and 2.65 carats set alongside multiple brilliant-cut diamonds.
Dustin Johnson
For professional golfer Dustin Johnson, 2020 has been a year of dominance. With his win at the 2020 Masters Tournament, Johnson has cemented his legacy in the world of professional golf and allowed him to wear that now-iconic green jacket.
Johnson's relationship with Hublot is so close that he even helped launch the very special Big Bang Unico Golf in 2017. But for Johnson, he chose a day off the green, "I would love a Yellowfin 26 Hybrid bay boat. It would be great to fish with my boys or just take a leisurely cruise down the Intracoastal Waterway. It wouldn't fit under the tree, but perhaps one will find its way to my dock." After the year Johnson has had, we'd say it’s well-deserved!
Jean-Francois Sberro
Hublot's North American President, Jean-François Sberro, is a man on the move (read our interview). The Frenchman turned Miamian is used to being on the road for hundreds of days a year. But 2020 has provided Sberro the chance to re-focus on his passion for running.
"One of my bucket list items is to be able to run the Great Wall Marathon (close to Beijing in China) for my 40th birthday, which falls in 2021. Consequently, I would like to find an entry ticket to the race under the tree. I also hope Santa can accommodate and include a COVID-19 vaccine as well, just to be on the safe side."
Victor Cruz
Super Bowl Champion and friend of the brand Victor Cruz is no stranger to competition on and off the field. Known as much for his salsa dancing in the end zone as he is for his love of Hublot, Cruz has enjoyed a long relationship with Hublot and recently helped the brand launch the new Classic Fusion Concrete Jungle New York.
Always the gamer, Cruz selected a gift to enrich his stay-at-home experience, "Number one on my holiday list is the Oculus virtual reality goggles. I've always been fascinated by how real the experience feels, and I know my daughter would love them too. So why not have one in the comfort of my own home? It's a win, win!"
Lapo Elkann
"If there is one thing that 2020 has taught us, it is the importance of even the smallest act of solidarity and solace towards people who are in difficulty. Many people have been affected by the emergency situation, and for this reason, I hope that this Christmas can be, for those of us who have the opportunity, the occasion to dedicate a special thought with a spontaneous donation.
“I have decided to get personally involved with the LAPS Foundation and the invaluable contributions of the Italian, Israeli, and Portuguese national football teams in the #OURDUTY campaign in support of the Italian Red Cross and Banco Alimentare.
“The best gift I could wish for this year is not a material object, but a concrete action within everyone's reach.”
